Donations to Samels Farm
Please consider a generous gift to the farm this year!
Six reasons to contribute generously.
1) The ever richer educational program is building a connection to the heritage of our past for today’s student. A connection to a time, a mere 100 years ago, when 90% of Americans lived on the family farm, a heritage of self-sufficiency that is all but lost to the modern youth.
2) The farm provides a place to educate and entertain children and grandchildren.
3) To help protect the rich and nearly continuous archaeological history that is unfolding from past Skegemog Point residents, some dating back to the end of the last ice age 11,600 years ago! Without an educational mission, and hence, charitable status, property taxes alone would force a sale of part or all of the property!
4) Because of the spending, and market changes our balances are reduced.
5) Skegemog Lake or Skegemog Point residents benefit from the increased value to their property by preserving 84 acres of open space and 1,000 feet of lake frontage. There are a total of about 100 home site lots on Skegemog Lake on the Samels property. If the lake front property (10 lots) were sold it would increase all lake noise, road noise, construction noise, etc levels by 10%. Samels Family Heritage Society keeps that from happening.
6) If the gift you make to Samels Family Heritage Society is designated for endowment, you can take a 50% credit up to $100 per person on your Michigan income tax! And, your total donation still qualifies for a federal charitable deduction. A Michigan couple in a 30% tax bracket giving $400, can get back $200 in Michigan taxes, and $120 in Federal taxes, leaving an after tax cost of only $80 for a $400 gift.
If you want to have some fun, consider getting involved as a volunteer. What would you like to do? We have equipment to restore, buildings to preserve, kids to teach, and visitors to entertain.
Come join the Samels board who put in thousands of volunteer hours each year.
